You can contact Manchester City Council at ctax.enquiries@manchester.gov.uk and forward their response to us.
Council Tax accounts must end on the final date of the Tenancy Agreement (eg. if your move out on 20th June but your Tenancy ends on 30th June your Council Tax account must be ended on 30th June).
This applies regardless of whether you are a Professional Tenant who has been paying Council Tax or a Student Tenant who has been exempt.
PROFESSIONALS: Either a Council Tax Bill dated till the end of stay or end of Tenancy Agreement (whichever is the latest date) & proof of payment or a letter/email from the Council confirming that you have paid in full for the full period of your Tenancy.
STUDENTS: Letter/email from Manchester City Council stating that all Tenants were exempt from Council Tax for the full period of the Tenancy. It must include:
- All Tenants’ names.
- Start and End dates of the Tenancy (confirming that the exemption has been applied for the full period of your Tenancy).
- The Full Address of the property.
An Exemption Certificate from your University is not acceptable proof as it does not prove that the Council have been informed of your exemption, nor does it prove that your exemption has been applied for the full period of your Tenancy.
Student Council Tax exemptions are valid up to the end of your educational course. This means that if your course ends earlier than the end of the Tenancy your exemption may not cover your full Tenancy and you may need to pay the remaining period and provide us with proof that you have done so.
