On the final date of your Tenancy we will take meter readings at your property. It is the meter readings taken on the end date of the Tenancy as stated on the Tenancy Agreement that you will need to provide to the utility companies. We are happy to provide the final meter readings to you if you would like to request them from us or you can take them yourself when you move out.
Contact your utility supplier to give them the meter readings, pay the remaining bills and inform them you are closing your account. You should be able to do this by phone on the same day you move out.
Some water bills are unmetered so if this is the case with your property you only need to provide us with proof that you have paid all the standing charges up to and including the final date of your Tenancy. Not all of our properties have a gas supply, so you only need to provide gas bills to us if there is gas supplied to your property.
ONCE BILLS ARE RECEIVED (at your new address)
- Pay the final bills.
- Provide us with copies of your final bills (see points a – c below for details) by either post, hand in or email (as .PDF or .JPEG attachments), please send all the bills together:
a) Final Water Bill showing meter readings & proof of payment.
b) Final Electric Bill showing meter readings & proof of payment.
c) Final Gas Bill showing meter readings & proof of payment.
PROOF OF PAYMENT OF UTILITY BILLS
We have mentioned ‘proof of payment’ above. By this we mean either a copy of a receipt or a bank statement showing the payment amount stated on the final utility bill. We can also accept a letter or email from the utility supplier stating there is no outstanding balance or if the final bill itself states a £0.00 balance or a credit on your accout this is also fine.
Proof of payment alone without the final bills showing final meter readings is not sufficient. We need to ensure that everybody pays in full for the actual amount of utilities they have used. Imagine if you moved into a property and found that the previous Tenants left without paying for the final few weeks of their electricity usage. Would you feel happy paying for that even though you had not used it?
